MEXICAN SOCCER POWER TO BRING TWO TEAMS TO PLAY IN SAN ANTONIO
SAN ANTONIO, Texas Mexican soccer power Monterrey Rayados is bringing two of its younger squads – the Under-17 team and the Under-20 team – to play two area teams in separate exhibition matches, officials announced.
Monterrey’s U-17 squad will play the San Antonio Classic Elite All Stars and the U-20 team will play the Austin Aztex. Both exhibition matches will be played Friday, June 29, 2012 at Blossom Soccer Complex (U-17 at 6 p.m. and the U-20 at 8 p.m.).
Marco Barros, president of the Classic Elite Soccer Academy and the host club, says this is a rare opportunity for San Antonio fans to see two of Monterrey Rayados’ younger squads up close.
“These are two ultra talented squads and both will provide an excellent test for the Classic Elite All-Stars and the Austin Aztex,” Barros said. “Two exhibitions like this on one night at a great venue like Blossom will make for an exciting night of soccer.”
Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for youths. Tickets can be purchased at area sponsors Los Barrios, Cielito Lindo, Aldacos, Los Barrios, El Chilaquil, Costa Pacifica, the Soccer Factory, Soccer World and the Crocketteers soccer supporters group.
James Hope, president of the Crocketteers supporters group, says this is a chance for San Antonio fans to see possible stars of the future for the Mexican National Team.
“These will be fun exhibitions to watch and you never know which one of these players will be playing for Mexico in international competitions in the future,” said Hope.
Classics Elite, founded in 2004, currently has 36 boys and girls teams. The club has two boys teams – U-16 and U-18 – competing in the U.S. Development Academy, the highest level of competition in United States youth soccer. Classics Elite is one of 81 clubs, including MLS academies, in the U.S. Development Academy. The nine Texas clubs in the U.S. Development Academy all have pre-Academy programs (U-11 through U-15). The Classics Elite girls’ teams compete in the State Classic and Premier leagues, which are the highest level in Region 3.
